Nurses in Michigan track Cyclospora outbreak using grocery receipts and food apps

Public health nurses in Washtenaw County, Michigan have been reassigned to contact hundreds of people sick with cyclosporiasis and reconstruct their recent eating habits. The Cyclospora parasite can take up to two weeks to cause symptoms after consuming contaminated food, making it hard to trace the source. Investigators are using grocery receipts and food-tracking apps to pinpoint where the outbreak originated.
