Warsaw marks 82nd anniversary of the 1944 Uprising with citywide silence at 5 p.m.
On 1 August 1944, the Warsaw Uprising began — the largest armed resistance action in Nazi-occupied Europe, lasting 63 days. The Polish capital is marking the 82nd anniversary with ceremonies throughout the day. At 5 p.m., the city will observe a minute of silence in tribute to the uprising's participants and victims.
