Nearly 1,000 athletes fought in the Warsaw Uprising, including 27 Olympians

Nearly 1,000 athletes took part in the Warsaw Uprising, including 27 Olympians such as Maria Kwaśniewska, Eugeniusz Lokajski, Adam Papee and brothers Ignacy and Ksawery Tłoczyńscy. Of them, 124 were killed and more than 200 wounded. Their participation highlights the deep connection between sport and patriotism in wartime Poland.
