Poland's Supreme Court chief accuses KRS of subordinating courts to political power

Supreme Court First President Zbigniew Kapiński criticised the National Council of the Judiciary (KRS), which ruled that presidential appointments of judicial assessors are invalid without the prime minister's countersignature. Kapiński argued this approach increases the dependence of judicial appointments on political power. The dispute touches on the fundamental division of competences between the president and the government over the courts.
