Evolution repeats itself in the Galápagos: different genes, same leaf shape

Scientists have discovered that giant daisies in the Galápagos repeatedly and independently evolved similar heat-tolerant leaf shapes, yet each lineage achieved this using a different combination of genes. The study provides a rare example of repeatable convergent evolution at the molecular level. Researchers also found major genetic differences among isolated populations, suggesting new species may be forming right now.
