Cyclospora outbreak: 16,000 US cases, 40% of Americans cutting back on fruit and veg

More than 16,000 cases of cyclosporosis — a parasitic illness causing severe dehydration and explosive diarrhea — have been reported in the United States. In response to the outbreak, 40% of Americans say they are buying or eating less fruit and vegetables. The disease is caused by the parasite Cyclospora cayetanensis, transmitted through contaminated food and water.
