Scientists grow living mushroom fabric that self-repairs like skin

Researchers from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, publishing in Science Advances, have developed a flexible living fabric made from mycelium that retains its ability to grow and self-repair. Earlier attempts failed because manufacturing processes killed the fungal cells. The biodegradable material is proposed as an alternative to plastic-based fast fashion textiles and functions as a natural protective barrier.
