Forgotten WWI graves unearthed in Szczawne, Subcarpathian region

Archaeologists led by Dr. Marcin Czarnowicz of the Jagiellonian University Institute of Archaeology have located a forgotten WWI necropolis in Szczawne, Komańcza commune, Subcarpathian Voivodeship. The site dates to the brutal Carpathian winter battles of 1914–1915; finds include spiked helmets (Pickelhauben) and bones showing signs of healed wounds. The breakthrough came through archival research and laser terrain scanning.
