Nonstick PTFE cookware sheds particles even without visible wear
Research by RTINGS found that nonstick cookware with PTFE (Teflon-type) coatings can shed microscopic particles during cooking even when the surface shows no visible damage or scratches. The results suggest that the visual condition of a pan is not a reliable safety indicator. Consumers are advised to replace nonstick cookware regularly regardless of how it looks.
