Stone tools made 1.5 million years ago rewrote human evolution
The word "lithics" refers to stone artefacts studied in archaeology. For a long time scientists believed only Homo sapiens made stone tools, but discoveries in Indonesia showed humans were crafting sharp-edged stone flakes 1.5 million years ago — long before our species existed. Because stone preserves far better than materials like textiles or leather, lithics form the backbone of what we know about ancient civilisations.
