Damaged banknote? A cashier can refuse it, but a bank will exchange it

Polish cashiers are legally entitled to refuse torn, damaged or discoloured banknotes if their condition raises doubts. However, the money is not lost: damaged notes can be exchanged at any bank or, in specific cases, directly at the headquarters of the National Bank of Poland (NBP). Knowing this right can save customers from losing the value of worn-out cash.
