Over 11,500 Sick in Record US Cyclosporiasis Outbreak Across Nine States

The CDC is investigating the largest cyclosporiasis outbreak on record in the US, now spanning nine states. There are 4,173 laboratory-confirmed domestic cases, with more than 7,400 additional suspected cases under investigation — bringing the total this summer to over 11,500. The disease, caused by the parasite Cyclospora cayetanensis, can cause explosive diarrhoea, nausea and fatigue.
