4,375 free-credit lawsuits filed in Q1 2026 as banks brace for wave of claims
Polish courts received 4,375 lawsuits in Q1 2026 in which clients are demanding the so-called free-credit sanction — stripping banks of the right to charge interest and additional fees. The Justice Ministry has for the first time begun keeping a separate register of such cases. Demand for this legal remedy is expected to grow further following a Court of Justice of the EU ruling on 23 April 2026.
