Broad Institute launches non-profit center to make gene therapies cheaper for rare diseases
The Broad Institute, Boston Children's Hospital and Maine's Jackson Laboratory announced on Tuesday the creation of the non-profit Center for Therapeutic Genetics. Its mission is to develop gene therapies for people with rare diseases and to share methods, data and training with other clinicians to lower costs and expand access. Founding director Winston Yan said the goal is to treat personalised gene therapies like clinical procedures — similar to organ transplants — so separate regulatory approvals are not needed for every individual use.
