"Other Mommy" horror trailer with Jessica Chastain terrified Odyssey audiences

If you saw The Odyssey in theaters this weekend (and plenty of people did ), you may have been traumatized by the chilling first trailer for Other Mommy – a new Blumhouse horror starring Jessica Chastain. And horror fans are already raving about the terrifying first look.

Directed by Rob Savage (Host, The Boogeyman), the movie centers on 8-year-old Bela, whose parents are going through marital difficulties when a sinister doppelgänger entity she dubs 'other mommy' emerges from her closet and terrorizes the family. We're already freaked out.

So were audiences, who turned up to the theater for the latest Nolan epic and were greeted by the face of fear. "My biggest takeaway from The Odyssey isn't anything about The Odyssey itself. It's the horror movie trailer that they showed right before for 'Other Mommy' that won't allow me to sleep for the foreseeable future," said @ BarstoolHubbs on Twitter.

"Did anyone else s*** their pants at the Other Mommy trailer before The Odyssey?" @ echochlo bluntly asked, summing up general sentiment.

In particular, a jump scare that opens the trailer is being singled out as either the scariest thing you'll see in a theater this year... or laughably bad (this is the internet, after all). "The movie I saw after it was so good I completely forgot about it, but I have to say the first jump scare in the trailer for OTHER MOMMY is a contender for Worst Of All Time," noted @ akeltheartist .

"Guys, we're not talking enough about the trailer for the Other Mommy. Why isn't it online? There's a Jessica Chastain jumpscare that we could not stop laughing at," adds @ dietcokestan . You can't please everyone.

Other Mommy debuted its first look behind closed doors at CinemaCon earlier this year. Expect the official trailer to release online in the near future, so you can judge for yourself. Alongside Chastain in a dual role, the impressive cast includes Backrooms' Jay Duplass, Severance's Dichen Lachman, Succession's Arian Moayed, and Indiana Jones legend Karen Allen.
