Medicare proposes 19% pay rise for doctors who counsel patients to quit smoking
Medicare has proposed a 19% increase in reimbursement for physicians who counsel patients on quitting smoking or other tobacco products during visits, according to a proposed update to the physician fee schedule released this week. The same increase would apply to assessments and interventions for alcohol and substance misuse. Smoking remains the number one cause of preventable death in the United States.
