Cyclospora outbreak in the US: fecal parasite on produce sickens consumers

The US is seeing a summer surge in Cyclospora cases, a foodborne parasitic illness caused by fecal contamination of fresh produce such as herbs and salad greens. Symptoms include prolonged diarrhoea, stomach cramps and fatigue, and can last weeks without antibiotic treatment. The outbreak adds to a difficult summer season for American consumers.
