Third-party app stores coming to Google Play after Epic settlement collapses
Google confirmed it will begin distributing rival app stores through Google Play as early as next week, following the collapse of its antitrust settlement with Epic Games. The dispute dates to 2020, when Epic bypassed Google's and Apple's 30% commission by adding a direct V-Bucks purchase option in mobile Fortnite, leading to the game's removal from both stores. The change could fundamentally reshape Android app distribution and cut into Google's revenue from its app ecosystem.
