Neuron skeleton acts as gatekeeper — its weakening triggers Alzheimer's proteins
Researchers have discovered that a microscopic skeleton inside neurons acts as a gatekeeper, controlling what brain cells absorb and when. When this protective structure weakens, neurons rapidly take in harmful proteins associated with Alzheimer's disease. Stabilising the structure could become a promising new strategy for preventing the brain-cell damage that drives the disease.
