Lawsuit: Meta used AI, not managers, to select 8,000 workers for layoffs — targeting disabled employees

Twenty-six former Meta employees filed a lawsuit in US District Court for the Northern District of California, alleging the company used internal AI systems — including a tool called "Metamate" and "second-brain" agents — to build termination lists without meaningful managerial input. The complaint claims the AI-driven process disproportionately targeted workers with disabilities and those who had taken protected medical or family leave. Meta's layoff wave affected approximately 8,000 employees.
