Cyclospora parasite infects 1,645 in US — CDC expects outbreaks to continue through August
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has confirmed 1,645 lab-verified cases of Cyclospora, a parasite that causes watery, explosive diarrhea. A total of 145 people have been hospitalised, and over 5,100 additional cases are awaiting further analysis and interviews. Health officials expect the outbreaks to continue through August as they investigate the food supply chain, with lettuce suspected as a possible source.
