"Trigger" has entered everyday speech and lost its clinical meaning
Clinical psychologist and psychotherapist Dr Elżbieta Krawczyk-Pasławska warns that the word "trigger" has been so overused in everyday Polish speech that it has lost its clinical meaning. A term once reserved for war veterans and trauma survivors has become a fashionable synonym for minor annoyances, blurring the distinction between discomfort and genuine, devastating psychological distress. She argues this linguistic shift may harm people suffering from real trauma.
