45% of dementia cases are preventable, study in The Lancet finds
Researchers from Curtin University published a major review in The Lancet Healthy Longevity showing that 45% of dementia cases are linked to modifiable risk factors. These include physical inactivity, smoking, social isolation and low education levels. A study tracking nearly half a million adults confirmed that muscle activity directly protects the brain. Awareness campaigns alone are insufficient — lasting lifestyle changes are needed.
