Damaged banknote refused at a shop? You can exchange it at a bank or the NBP

Shop cashiers in Poland are entitled to refuse damaged, torn, stained or discoloured banknotes. However, such notes can be exchanged at any bank or, in specific cases, directly at the headquarters of the National Bank of Poland (NBP). The money is not lost even if a shop refuses to accept it.
