Maths model shows cannibalism collapsed populations — not morality that stopped it
Researchers Dr Michał Misiak (University of Wrocław) and Dr Petr Tureček (Charles University, Prague) published a mathematical model in PNAS showing that long-term cannibalism leads to population collapse. The human body is a poor caloric source, and the risks of obtaining it make the energy balance even less favourable. The model covers both survival and ritual cannibalism, finding devastating population-level consequences in both cases.
