Mushrooms grow most abundantly after warm rain, not heatwaves

Poland's mushroom season begins in June, with species such as porcini, butter mushrooms, bay boletes and chanterelles emerging most abundantly a few days after warm rainfall. Dry heatwaves are unfavourable for growth; mushrooms thrive when soil temperatures stay above 15°C and moisture is plentiful. Foragers are advised to head to the forest a few days after rain rather than during or after a dry spell.
