Marsh Fritillary Butterfly Disappearing in Poland Due to Loss of Devil's-Bit Scabious

The marsh fritillary butterfly, found across temperate zones from western Europe to Korea, is becoming increasingly rare in Poland. The species depends entirely on devil's-bit scabious, a plant on whose leaves it lays eggs and feeds. The loss of meadow habitats and intensification of agriculture are driving the decline of this plant and, with it, the butterfly.
