Kim Jong Un's mother hidden from North Koreans to protect regime
Ko Yong Hui, the mother of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, is almost entirely unknown to ordinary North Koreans. The regime deliberately conceals her identity because she was born in Japan to an ethnic Korean emigrant family — a background that could undermine the legitimacy of the Kim dynasty. Her existence was never officially acknowledged by Kim Jong Il.
