Great apes and humans have shared laughter for 15 million years, study finds
A new study finds that great apes laugh in a way strikingly similar to humans, suggesting the two share a common laughing ancestor from 15 million years ago. Researchers analysed archived recordings of various ape species and identified shared acoustic characteristics with human laughter. Scientists also say ape laughter provides clues about the evolutionary origins of human speech.
