Venezuela declared a state of emergency after powerful back-to-back tremors measuring magnitude 7.5 caused building collapses in the capital Caracas. The U.S. Geological Survey estimates a 44% chance the death toll could exceed 10,000. It is the most powerful earthquake to strike Venezuela in more than a century.
