France records hottest day since 1947 — over 50 departments exceed 40°C
France experienced its hottest day on record since measurements began in 1947, according to the national weather agency — breaking a record set just one day earlier. Since the latest heatwave started on June 17, more than 50 mainland French departments have recorded temperatures of 40°C or higher. It is the latest in a series of extreme heat events striking the country.
