South Ossetia Leader Gagloev Quits to Become Putin's Adviser
Alan Gagloev, the leader of breakaway South Ossetia, has resigned his post to become an adviser to Vladimir Putin, declaring he is "ready to stand by his side." The move came shortly after the replacement of the separatist region's prime minister and the ratification of a new agreement with Moscow deepening South Ossetia's ties to Russia. Analysts see it as a further step in the creeping annexation of one of the Caucasus's most volatile frozen conflicts.
