Thunderbolt 4 and 5 cables look identical to standard USB-C cables on the outside, but contain significantly more complex internal components that drive up manufacturing costs. The Thunderbolt standard requires active electronics and Intel certification, both of which add to the price. Many consumers are confused by the price difference because the connectors are physically identical to cheaper USB-C cables.
