Heliconius Butterflies Barely Age – Scientists Probe Their Longevity Secret
Scientists have found that Heliconius butterflies live several times longer than closely related species and show remarkably little physical decline with age. Their unusual habit of feeding on pollen — rare among butterflies — may partly explain this longevity. Researchers believe deeper evolutionary changes, beyond diet alone, are responsible for keeping these insects healthy far longer than expected.
