Europe building arms factories three times faster than before the war
Europe has added over 7 million square metres of new defence industry floor space since Russia's invasion of Ukraine — equivalent to around 100 football pitches, according to the Financial Times. Construction is proceeding three times faster than in the pre-war period, with new plants spanning Poland, Finland, the UK and Hungary. The expansion is partly driven by EU funding as Brussels pushes to turn Europe into a major arms-production hub.
