Pastizzi: Malta's street breakfast that was once poor man's food
Pastizzi are flaky Maltese pastries filled with ricotta or mushy peas, sold at small local cafés called pasticceriji. Once considered humble working-class food, they are now the island's most iconic street snack. Locals eat them from early morning, and a single piece costs just a few cents.
