North Carolina first to send mail ballots, formally opening 2026 US midterms

North Carolina became the first US state to begin distributing mail-in ballots on Friday, formally launching the 2026 midterm elections. This comes as the Trump administration pushes to impose sweeping restrictions on mail voting. The midterm elections themselves are more than a year away.
