Magnetism played a key role in the birth of the solar system, new study finds

A new study analysing dust from the Antarctic meteorite DOM 08006 reveals that magnetism played a far greater role in shaping the early solar system than previously thought. The 4.6-billion-year-old grains of dust preserved in the meteorite serve as a "fossil record" of the solar system's formation. Until now, gravity was considered the primary force sculpting the protoplanetary disk around the infant sun.
