US court rejects Google breakup, leaving EU alone in pushing for divestiture

Judge Leonie Brinkema of the Federal District Court of Eastern Virginia rejected the Department of Justice's request for a forced breakup of Google's advertising business. The ruling came months after the same court found Google guilty of monopolising the digital advertising market in April 2025. The decision leaves the European Commission — which fined Google €2.95 billion — isolated in pushing for structural remedies at a time of transatlantic tension.
