US defunds public media and the emergency alert system with it
The US Congress has defunded public media, including NPR and PBS, inadvertently dismantling part of the emergency alert system that warns communities about tornadoes and other disasters. In much of rural America, public stations are the last local broadcast signal and a critical link in emergency communications. The cuts mean millions of Americans could lose access to life-saving alerts.
