El Niño breaks records as Pacific temperature rises over 2°C in six months

Australia's Bureau of Meteorology reports that the current El Niño event has already broken records, with Pacific Ocean temperatures rising more than 2°C in just six months. The UN's weather agency says the event will likely persist until early 2027 and warns it has the potential to deliver a "massive blow" to communities and economies worldwide. Separate research indicates climate change has greatly increased the odds of El Niño reaching such extreme levels.
