Scientists discover why bats carry deadly viruses without falling ill

Scientists have found that more than 500 species of vesper bats carry two separate sets of antibody genes — an immune arrangement never previously observed in any mammal. This unique system may explain how bats harbour hundreds of viruses without becoming seriously ill. The discovery could open new avenues for research into infectious diseases in humans.
