OpenAI to invest $50 billion in AI infrastructure this year despite public backlash

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman told Time magazine that the past year "has been a painful personal experience," referencing gunshots and an incendiary device thrown at his home. Despite public hostility toward data centres and AI, OpenAI is pressing ahead, planning to invest $50 billion in compute capacity this year alone. Compute co-lead Sachin Katti said earlier investments were "very prescient" and that the company is "still short of compute."
