Andrzej Wielowieyski dies — last of a generation of civic patriots

Andrzej Wielowieyski, described as one of the last representatives of a generation of genuine civic patriots, has died. His autobiography, published eight years ago, was titled "Losowi na przekór" (Against Fate). Commentators remember him as a man for whom patriotism meant civic engagement rather than ideological struggle.
