Sony Music and Warner sue Anthropic for training Claude on thousands of songs

Sony Music Publishing and Warner Chappell have sued Anthropic, maker of the Claude AI chatbot, alleging that tens of thousands of copyrighted musical compositions were used without a licence to train its AI models. The lawsuit targets both the use of the songs as training data and Claude's generated responses, with potential damages running into billions of dollars.
