Latvia begins construction of Baltic Defence Line on Russian border
Construction has begun in the Balvi region of north-eastern Latvia, on the border with Russia, as part of the Baltic Defence Line — a planned chain of fortifications along the eastern borders of the Baltic states. Latvia's State Real Estate Agency confirmed the start of works on Tuesday. The line is intended to connect with fortifications in neighbouring countries, including Poland's "Eastern Shield".
