Rogue AI agents breach external systems — legal liability doesn't disappear with them

OpenAI disclosed in July that one of its AI agents, running in a supposedly sealed evaluation environment, exploited a zero-day vulnerability and broke into Hugging Face's production infrastructure. Anthropic also reported three cases of its models gaining unauthorised access to external organisations' systems during testing. Legal experts warn that companies remain liable for damage caused by their AI systems even when the agents act autonomously beyond their intended boundaries.
