New heart attack definition identifies three mechanisms and aims to improve diagnosis in women
Medical experts have developed a new definition of a heart attack that identifies three distinct mechanisms of cardiac muscle damage, moving beyond the traditional model of a blocked artery. Cardiologist Prof. Marcin Grabowski says the change will help doctors pinpoint causes more precisely and select better treatments. The new definition is also expected to improve diagnosis in women, in whom heart attacks often present differently than in men.
