Film-maker Loznitsa slams EU for cutting €2m Venice Biennale funding over Russia row
Ukrainian film-maker Sergei Loznitsa has criticised the European Commission's decision to cut a €2 million grant to the Venice Biennale, likening it to "a punishment in kindergarten". The EC suspended the funding after the Biennale allowed Russia to use its pavilion for the first time since 2022, despite the ongoing invasion of Ukraine. The controversy erupted on the eve of the Venice film festival.
