UN warns global heating will hit at least 1.8°C — 'no good outcomes'

A UN Environment Programme report warns that global heating will reach at least 1.8°C even under the most optimistic scenarios, well beyond the Paris Agreement's 1.5°C target. The report says breaching the 1.5°C threshold is now "unavoidable" and likely within the next few years. Rising temperatures threaten extreme weather, glacier melt, ecosystem loss, and the submersion of islands and coastal cities. Every fraction of a degree of additional warming worsens these outcomes.
